Kelly Clarkson: 10 Facts You Should Know Before The AMAs

Ever since Kelly Clarkson made the transformation from young vocal powerhouse on American Idol to global pop superstar, she’s continued to delight and dazzle fans both with her powerful vocals and strong personality. Clarkson will be among the talented musicians performing at the AMAs this year. But before the Texas native returns to the AMAs stage for an unforgettable performance, let’s take a minute to learn more about Clarkson.

She’s a four-time American Music Award winner

Clarkson took home her first AMAs in 2005 for Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist and the T-Mobile Text-In Award. The next year, she won two awards, Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist and Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist.

And she’s been nominated eight times from 2003-2012

That’s almost receiving one nomination a year on average. Wow!

She’s landed over 25 songs on the Billboard Hot 100

Three of those were number ones: “A Moment Like This,” “My Life Would Suck Without You,” and “Stronger.”

Other talented musicians can’t help but praise her

Demi Lovato lists Kelly Clarkson high among her influences and dream collaborators, while country star Kelsea Ballerini even said that Clarkson is her favorite artist of all time. “I think that she’s the best vocalist in the whole world, but my favorite is watching her interviews because she’s so 200 percent herself,” Ballerini said. “It’s my favorite.”

Her first IMDb acting credit was back in the “80s”

Sort of. In 2002, Clarkson appeared in an episode of the sitcom “That ’80s Show,” as well as an episode of the teen comedy classic, “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.” She’s also lent her voice to the popular animated series “Phineas and Ferb,” and the 2017 CGI-animated film “The Star.” In 2003, she co-starred with “American Idol” runner-up Justin Guarini in “From Justin to Kelly.”

The names Remington and River Rose are very important to her

Because those are the names of her children! Clarkson’s daughter River Rose was born on June 12, 2014. Her second child, Remington Alexander Blackstock, was born April 12, 2016.

And she knows the stepson of country legend Reba McEntire quite well

Because he’s her husband, Brandon Blackstock! The two got engaged in 2012 and married in 2013.

She’s quite the wordsmith

In 2016, Clarkson released her first children’s book, “River Rose and the Magical Lullaby.” Inspired by her daughter, the book has received very strong reviews, with one reader saying “Kelly Clarkson is the celebrity that every other celeb should want to be.”

She wanted to originally be a marine biologist

…until a Steven Spielberg film scared her way. “Jaws” is considered a classic, but the film freaked out Clarkson enough to give up the aquatic scientific field. All we can say is… thank goodness she chose singing!

She lives life on her own terms and nobody else’s

It makes sense that the singer behind “Miss. Independent” is very independent herself. “I’ve just never cared what people think,” Clarkson told Heatworld. “It’s more if I’m happy and I’m confident and feeling good, that’s always been my thing. And more so now, since having a family – I don’t seek out any other acceptance.”
