Justin Bieber is a two-time American Music Award Artist of the Year winner (2010, 2012), and is nominated for the third time in this category. If he takes home the award at the 2016 AMAs, he will tie Taylor Swift for the most Artist of the Year wins. Bieber is also nominated in a new category, Video of the Year, against Desiigner’s “Panda” and Rihanna’s “Work” featuring Drake.

Rihanna is the current record holder for the most wins in the Favorite Female – Soul/R&B category with five wins. Rihanna and Beyoncé will go head-to-head in the same category for the second consecutive year. Rihanna is also nominated in a new category, Video of the Year, for “Work” featuring Drake – up against Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” and Desiigner’s “Panda.”

Beyoncé, a 23 all-time American Music Award nominee, is the tied for the second highest number of awards for Favorite Female Artist – Soul/R&B with Aretha Franklin and Mariah Carey. If she wins this year, she will tie Rihanna for the most wins in this category. Adele is a four-time American Music Award winner. She is nominated for Favorite Artist – Adult Contemporary and if she takes home the win, she will tie Celine Dion for the most wins in this category.

Carrie Underwood, a nine-time American Music Award nominee, is nominated for Favorite Female Artist – Country and will defend her title for the third consecutive year, against newcomers Cam and Kelsea Ballerini. Carrie is also a first-time nominee for the top honor, Artist of the Year.

The Weeknd is nominated in three categories including Artist of the Year, Favorite Male Artist – Pop/Rock and Favorite Male Artist – Soul/R&B, where he will defend his title against Chris Brown and Bryson Tiller.

Enrique Iglesias dominates the Favorite Artist – Latin category with 7 wins, the most of any Latin artist. This will be his 8th win in the category, should he take the award home again this year.

The Chainsmokers, DNCE and Twenty One Pilots are all first-time American Music Award nominees. The three will go head-to-head for Favorite Duo or Group – Pop/Rock, while The Chainsmokers and DNCE will also face off for the coveted New Artist of the Year Unleashed by T-Mobile award.
